The Great Experiment

Well, I did it. I disabled my facebook account. And, in the grand tradition of stupidly dramatic gestures I make, it was all about a girl.

See, that's the thing: it's always about a girl. At the heart of every story is a guy trying to get to, away from, or to forget a girl. My previous blogs/websites have been as distractions from females. The great classical stories for old are all about a girl. Even The Social Network, a movie mired with accusations of sexism, boils down to that one last scene, with Zuckerberg looking at the facebook page of his ex-girlfriend, incessantly refreshing the browser to see if she has accepted his friend request and/or updated her status yet.

So I'm trying to move past that. I've been better this time than with previous crushes, able to identify my recurring destructive habits, but still not quite able to stop myself completely. The only thing that is proven to work is to remove temptation completely. It's far to easy to stalk someone on facebook, and I don't want to become That Guy. I look down on That Guy. I promised myself I wouldn't become That Guy. I'm twenty-nine years old today (yes, happy birthday to me); it's time I started acting my age.

So, this blog will again serve as a distraction, to fill the temporal void left after relaxing my constant social networking vigilance. I hope to start writing more reviews, both movies, as I'm trained to, and other things, too. Hopefully I'll also dabble in some light graphic design stuff. Well, I say graphic design when realistically it'll probably just be "messing around in photoshop."

And hopefully in the end, it'll have grown past being all about a girl.
